Freesia of Alessandra

DOTE Garden is a physical space in the city of Palermo, conceived and cared for by the collective Aterraterra. It is born out of Listening to Seeds, the third moment in our Year of Listening. You can visit the garden by reading the stories of the seeds that have been planted in it. This is one of the stories.

I brought a bulb of a flower named Freesia.
These flowers are really special to me. These flowers grow every year in my house. My mother, Katia, told me that she planted them in September 1993 in Palermo, when she just got married.
I was not born yet. I know that this kind of plants when the flowers are dead, you need to take out the bulb and then put in the soil again. But my mother was lazy, and she left them in the soil, yet they continued to grow and give flowers every year.
In the shop you can find them having one color each, yellow or white or purple. But this bulb makes multi-colored flowers, one flower could have petals of different colors mixed together. They used to flower on the day of my birthday, on the 23rd of February; but because of the global warming they open a bit earlier now.
