Picture of Sandhya Suresh

Sandhya Suresh

Sandhya Suresh, is a dance artist and maker from Singapore. She is currently engaged in an internship with Dancing on the Edge festival as part of her MA program in Contemporary Theatre, Dance and Dramaturgy at Utrecht University. Sandhya is the associate artistic director at Chowk Productions, a Singapore-based dance theatre company. Her artistic works are driven by her aim to challenge pre-existing stereotypes by dismantling societal expectations and pushing the boundaries of conventional norms through the transformative powers of art. With a strong foundation in both western and Indian classical dance forms, Her body of work “Body language” questions the dichotomy between what is considered classical and contemporary by using Odissi, a classical Indian dance form as a point of departure. She is committed to continuously advancing her artistic growth through academic pursuits by bridging the gap between theory and practice.

DOTE Magazine is an initiative of Dancing on the Edge to share, think, and wonder together. We want to research and provide context and more depth around issues and topics that feel urgent to us. We invite you to join with texts, images, videos, scores, drawings and ideas. We want to tell multiple stories and widen perspectives round discourses of (performing) arts, Europe and West Asia and North Africa, migration and diaspora, sustainable programming and collectivity. We try to build communities. If you want to contribute to DOTE Magazine please contact us on pr[at]dancingontheedge.nl
